Registration period ends for the FCBarcelona Photo Awards
On the 24th of March the internationally recognised jury will decide the winners of the two categories
Tuesday, 28th of February, 11.59pm, was the deadline for submitting proposals for the first edition of FCBarcelona Photo Awards. The Awards were presented in Barcelona last November in the presence of Club President Josep Maria Bartomeu, Vice President and head of the Department of International and Institutional Relations, Carles Vilarrubí, and the Minister of Culture, Santi Vila. Later, the same happened in Paris and New York.
On Friday, 24th of March, the jury will meet in Barcelona in the presence of Vice President Carles Vilarrubí and the other members of the jury to decide who will be the winners of the two categories. The prizes will be known in the last week of March.
The Awards will depend on an internationally renowned jury. Names of the stature of Vicente Todolí, former director of the Tate Modern London, and Ayperi Karabuda Ecer, vice president of photography of the Reuters agency, endorse this ambitious project of the Club, promoted by the Department of International and Institutional Relations.
The FCBarcelona Photo Awards consist of two categories: the Photo Award and the Project Award.
The jury of the Photo Award will consist of the following people:
- Vicente Todolí, director of the Tate Modern London until 2010. Artistic advisor to Hangar Bicocca of Milan.
- Azu Ngwabogu, founder and director of African Artists’ Foundation (AFF).
- Sandra Phillips, senior curator of MOMA in San Francisco.
The jury of the Project Award will consist of the following people:
- Ayperi Karabuda Ecer, vice-president of photography for Reuters.
- Christopher Anderson, member of Magnum Photos and winner of the Robert Capa Gold Medal.
- Stephen Mayes, more than 25 years of experience as a manager of projects and artists from different sectors.
These photography awards aim to identify the work that consciously reflect the positive values inherent in sport, with the aim of establishing and giving recognition to these values, viewed through the lens of contemporary photographers.
By highlighting these positive common values in sport and culture, the FCBarcelona Photo Awards, sponsored by AGBAR and in collaboration with the Foto Colectania Foundation, seek to create a new global photographic platform which communicates the importance and the contribution of these universal values to the current society, as well as give its support to the photography industry, creating a favourable environment for the development of high level projects.
